About Coal Creek Gardens
Coal Creek Gardens is a family owned and operated orchard on the Fruitlands-Roxburgh Road at Roxburgh in Central Otago, run by a local Roxburgh family. The orchard offers pick your own cherries from Boxing Day onwards each summer, and visitors are asked to contact the orchard first to arrange a time to visit rather than turning up unannounced. Alongside the pick your own cherries, the orchard runs a roadside fruit stall selling apples, apricots, pears, plums and quince along with homemade preserves, and also sells produce at local farmers markets and by nationwide courier delivery. The stall keeps long hours through the week, from around 8.30am to 8pm on weekdays and 9am to 8pm on weekends. Coal Creek Gardens is one of a small number of Central Otago orchards that still lets the public into the rows to pick cherries themselves, rather than selling only pre-picked fruit at the gate. Phone or email ahead to check what is ready to pick and to arrange your visit before travelling out to Roxburgh.
