Privacy policy

This site is a static directory. It has no accounts, no login, no comments and no shopping cart, and it asks you for nothing. We handle personal information about visitors as described below, with the Information Privacy Principles under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 as our reference point.

What we collect: nothing directly

We set no cookies of our own, run no analytics and show no advertising. We do not build a profile of you, and we have no way to identify you across visits.

If you email us, we obviously receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it to answer you and to correct the directory, and nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list, because we do not have one.

Third parties your browser contacts

Some pages load content from other services. When that happens, those services receive your IP address and standard browser information, as they would for any website. They are:

• OpenStreetMap (map tiles, from tile.openstreetmap.org). On farm pages and area pages the map only loads when you tap "Show the map". On the map page, where the map is the whole point of the page, it loads automatically.
• Open-Meteo (the weather forecast on a farm listing). This one loads by itself when the weather box scrolls into view, without a tap. It receives the farm's coordinates and your IP address.

We have no control over what those services do with that request, and we receive nothing back from them about you.

Location

The map page has a "Show farms near me" button. If you tap it, your browser asks your permission and then works out the distance to nearby farms inside your browser. Your location is never sent to us and never stored. If you decline, or your browser cannot get a fix, the map simply does not move.

Hosting

The site is served as static files by a hosting provider, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for security and operational purposes. We do not use those logs to identify visitors.

Farms listed on this site

Listings describe businesses, not private individuals, and the details we publish (address, phone, opening hours, prices) are ones the farm has already published about itself. If you run a listed farm and want something changed or the listing removed, email info@pickyourown.nz and we will do it.

Your rights, and how to reach us

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. In practice that will almost always be an email exchange, because that is the only personal information we hold. If a change to the site changes any of the above, this page is updated at the same time.
