Where can you pick your own fruit in New Zealand?
We list 28 pick-your-own farms in the North Island and in the South Island. Auckland has the most, followed by Canterbury, the Waikato, the Wellington region and the Bay of Plenty. Every farm has its own page with the address, season dates, opening hours, phone number and a map.
What can you pick, and when?
Summer is the season. Strawberries run November to February, blueberries December to March, cherries and apricots over December and January, raspberries and boysenberries through the same weeks. Then apples February to May, feijoas from March, nuts in April and May, and citrus June to September. The full month by month table is on the crop calendar.
Do you need to book?
At most farms you can simply turn up. Some Central Otago cherry orchards and a few smaller berry farms take bookings or open only on announced days, and each listing says so where we could confirm it. Over the Christmas and New Year weeks, go early in the day.
How does pick your own work?
The farm lends or sells you a container, you pick along the rows, and you pay on the way out, by weight or by container. Some farms charge entry per person instead, sometimes including all you can eat while you are in the orchard. Many are cash only. We publish whatever unit the farm itself quotes, without converting it.

It comes from the farms' own websites and Facebook pages, and every listing carries the date we last checked it. Picking depends on the weather, so confirm with the farm before you travel, especially at the very start and end of a season.
