About Blueberry Country - Ngatea Orchard
Blueberry Country's Ngatea orchard is one of four run by the same family business, on Central Road at Ngatea in the Hauraki Plains. Visitors park and check in, take a bucket, pick their own blueberries in designated rows, then weigh and pay by the kilo at the orchard store. Picking runs daily, 8am to 4:30pm, from the first weekend of December through to Waitangi weekend in February, closed on Christmas Day. Weekday and weekend or public holiday pricing applies, with a discount for pickers who take more than 10kg. The orchard store sells real fruit ice cream, frozen blueberries and snacks, and there is parking on site. Toilets are at the orchard store, with limited portable toilets in the fields. Dogs are not permitted, and visitors are asked to sample only a few berries for taste rather than eat freely while picking. Group bookings are needed for school trips, corporate outings or large parties to reserve rows in advance.
